Think & Do | Boardgame Concept & Design

Problem: Think & Do aims to collaboratively design and execute innovative solutions tailored to local needs. During a Barrier Buster session for teachers in late 2022, it was decided to developing a board game centered around the circular economy. It addresses issues and solutions related to the Climate Crisis, presenting players with thought-provoking questions of varying difficulty. The objective is to collect tokens and progress toward the center of the board, fostering a learning experience along the way.

The game, titled ‹Where Does it Come From, Where Does It Go To?› was crafted by class 8D at Le Sainte Union School. The class drew all the individual elements, but there was no overall board game structure or any additional literature available. T&D approached on-IDLE to help create the final logic and rules of the game – use/apply all the individual drawings into a one voice board game, packaging, rule book etc.

Solution: For on-IDLE the most important point was that we honour the work of the students and use the drawings from the students in its originality as much as possible. As the board represent the world with water, we created a visual wich can be applied to the brand touchpoints.

Highlight: Together with the client working out – on a in studio printed mockup – working out the rules and come up with more action. The session we had with the client in the pub with the prototype and creating the final touch on the rules and on the board.

The game has six categories – each categories has various questions in three difficulty levels. To add a layer of complexity – and make the game even more interesting – there are ‹Where does it come from, where does it go to?› learning cards.

The back of the rulebook was used to display the self portrait of all the students and the teacher involved in the project.

Seeing ‹The Artists› testing, playing – and approving the work on-IDLE created is just so much fun and excitement on our job and we know a job well done.

The game was put to a hard test – the ’drawers’ were playing the game and we only got positive feedback. As a thank you all the girls involved in the game received a copy of the game to take home

Marc from on-IDLE is an Adobe Ambassador and had through that relationship early access to the Adobe Photoshop AI features as we had to carefully extend the hand drawn images from the students to make sure they display with the biggest impact in the curved game tiles.

In the wild:
To help the client to assemble the game and all its parts – and celebrate Emiliy's Birthday... that just makes the on-IDLE team happy.
